1. India Flags Off First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Train
Indian Railways has introduced India’s first Hydrogen Fuel Cell Train, marking a major step towards clean and sustainable rail transport.
Key Facts:
- Route: Initially on the Jind–Sonipat (Haryana) section under Northern Railway; 10 coaches with capacity of ~2,600 passengers.
- Technology: Uses Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cell technology to generate electricity onboard from hydrogen + oxygen, emitting only water vapour (near-zero emissions).
- Infrastructure & Safety: India’s largest railway hydrogen refuelling facility at Jind; approved by PESO and independently assessed by TÜV SÜD (Germany) with multi-layer leak, heat, flame and smoke detection systems.
- Developed by: Indian Railways with RDSO (technical specifications), Medha Servo Drives (integration), and Integral Coach Factory (ICF) (design); supports the National Green Hydrogen Mission and India’s Net Zero goals.
2. Indian Navy to Commission INS Malvan
The Indian Navy will commission INS Malvan, the second Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), on 22 July 2026.
Key Facts:
- INS Malvan is the second vessel of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) and will be commissioned on 22 July 2026.
- Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, the warship has over 80% indigenous content, reflecting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
- The commissioning ceremony will be presided over by Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, in the presence of Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
- Designed for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations in shallow waters, the vessel strengthens the Indian Navy’s indigenous naval capabilities and coastal defence.
3. Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Reaches Over 29.32 Crore Citizens
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment announced that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) has reached over 29.32 crore people across India through nationwide awareness and community participation.
Key Facts:
- Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) was launched on 15 August 2020 under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
- The campaign has reached 29.32 crore citizens, including 11.20 crore youth and 7.92 crore women, and has conducted over 21 lakh awareness activities in educational institutions.
- Under NAPDDR, more than 28.29 lakh beneficiaries have received treatment and rehabilitation through 768 centres, with treatment seekers increasing from 2.08 lakh (2020) to 8.20 lakh (2025).
- The Drug De-addiction Helpline – 14446 has received over 4.60 lakh calls, while the NMBA App 2.0, NMBA Pledge, and Nasha Mukti Mitra initiative promote citizen participation in building a Drug-Free India.
4. India Launches First Engineering Biology Graduation Course
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced India’s first Engineering Biology graduation course and launched the roadmap to make India a global bioeconomy leader by 2035.
Key Facts:
- India’s first Engineering Biology graduation course aims to build a future-ready biotechnology workforce by integrating engineering, biology, medicine, and AI; IITs have begun proposing interdisciplinary programmes.
- The roadmap, “Building India as a Leading Bioeconomy Powerhouse by 2035,” focuses on AI-driven biology, synthetic biology, and bio-manufacturing to strengthen India’s biotechnology ecosystem.
- India’s bioeconomy has grown from USD 10 billion (2014) to USD 95 billion (2026) and is projected to reach USD 300 billion by 2030; the country has 11,000+ biotechnology start-ups.
- The roadmap envisions expanding the bioeconomy to USD 700 billion by 2035, supported by a proposed ₹50,000 crore Bioeconomy Growth Fund, while promoting innovation, talent development, and industry partnerships.
5. CSIR-NIScPR & CGPDTM Sign MoU for National Knowledge Resource Consortium
CSIR-NIScPR and the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) signed an MoU to strengthen access to global scientific and intellectual property resources through the National Knowledge Resource Consortium (NKRC).
Key Facts:
- The MoU was signed between CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) and CGPDTM, under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
- National Knowledge Resource Consortium (NKRC) provides access to global scientific journals, patent databases, bibliographic databases, standards, and research tools, supporting research, innovation, and evidence-based patent examination.
- NKRC, currently in its Silver Jubilee (25th year), serves 82 member institutions, including organizations under CSIR, Department of Science & Technology (DST), and Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
- The collaboration aims to strengthen intellectual property (IP) administration, patent examination, science communication, knowledge management, and innovation support, while enabling cost-effective access to global knowledge resources.
6. MY Bharat Launches ‘Yuva Yakrit Mitra’ Programme
MY Bharat, in collaboration with Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), organised the webinar “जागरूक जिगर: Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” and launched the Yuva Yakrit Mitra (Y2M) programme.
Key Facts:
- The webinar was organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in collaboration with ILBS to promote a drug-free and healthy India.
- Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted MY Bharat as India’s single-window platform for youth development and stated that 1.5–2.5 lakh youth visit the platform daily.
- Yuva Yakrit Mitra (Y2M), jointly launched by MY Bharat and ILBS, will provide experiential learning in liver health awareness, preventive healthcare, organ donation, community outreach, and health communication.
- The initiative supports the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 by creating Yuva Health Champions and encouraging youth participation in the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat campaign.
7. MoHUA Approves PARIVARTAN Scheme Guidelines for Delhi-NCR
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved the operational guidelines for the PARIVARTAN Scheme to replace old polluting trucks and buses in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Key Facts:
- PARIVARTAN (Programme for Accelerated Renewal and Incentivization of Vehicle Assets for Reducing Transport Air Pollution and Network Emissions) aims to replace old trucks and buses with BS-VI-compliant or electric vehicles (EVs) in the Delhi-NCR region.
- The scheme has a total outlay of ₹9,585 crore, including ₹5,041 crore as Central Government support, and was approved by the Union Cabinet on 3 June 2026.
- The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is the implementing ministry, with funding through the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB).
- Key incentives include motor vehicle tax concessions, registration fee waiver, 5% interest subvention on vehicle loans, minimum 8% OEM discount, fuel voucher support, and financial assistance for electric replacement vehicles.
8. India Demonstrates White Rabbit Technology for Indian Standard Time
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the White Rabbit Technology-based Indian Standard Time (IST) Distribution Demonstration Network in Jakkur, Bengaluru under the ‘One Nation, One Time’ initiative.
Key Facts:
- The White Rabbit Technology-based IST Distribution Demonstration Network aims to establish a uniform, highly precise, and secure Indian Standard Time (IST) across the country under the ‘One Nation, One Time’ vision.
- The project is implemented by the Legal Metrology Division of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, in collaboration with National Physical Laboratory (NPL), ISRO, BSNL, and SEBI.
- The indigenous system reduces dependence on foreign time sources such as GPS, enhancing cybersecurity and the reliability of banking, stock exchanges, telecommunications, power grids, and defence-related digital infrastructure.
- The system complies with global Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) protocols while strengthening India’s digital sovereignty and secure time synchronization infrastructure.
9. India Hosts BRICS National Standards Bodies Meeting in Bengaluru
Under its BRICS Chairship, India inaugurated the two-day meeting of the Heads of National Standards Bodies (NSBs) in Bengaluru, hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Key Facts:
- The meeting is being held under India’s BRICS Chairship theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
- A consensus was reached on the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in standardization, aimed at strengthening quality infrastructure, consumer protection, reducing technical barriers to trade, and enhancing engagement with ISO and IEC.
- BRICS represents approximately 49.5% of the world’s population, 40% of global GDP, and 26% of global trade, making harmonized standards significant for global economic cooperation.
- The meeting also includes a thematic workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Standardization, with participation from standards bodies including BIS (India), GOST R (Russia), SAC (China), ABNT (Brazil), and MoIAT-SAS (UAE).
10. NHAI Strengthens O&M of Highway Assets Through NHIT
The National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT) has engaged General Management Consultants (GMCs) to professionalize and strengthen the operations and maintenance (O&M) of National Highway assets.
Key Facts:
- National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT), an Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) sponsored by NHAI, was registered with SEBI in October 2020 and currently manages 2,653 km of National Highways.
- In the first phase, General Management Consultants (GMCs) will manage the operations and maintenance (O&M) of 908 km of National Highway assets using technology-driven inspections and global best practices.
- National Highways InvIT Project Managers Private Limited (NHIPMPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NHAI, serves as the Project Manager and ensures compliance with SEBI InvIT Regulations.
- The initiative aims to improve asset performance, road safety, traffic and toll management, strengthen governance, enhance investor confidence, and attract greater domestic and global investment in highway infrastructure.
